Question: Hello,

I have had some problems with diverticulosis and was wandering what could help prevent and or relieve flare-ups

Thank you

Answer: Dan,

Probiotic Flora-Health (1/day) and Noni Juice (1 oz. 2x/day) would be a good start. I would also get this book, Breaking the Vicious Cycle and follow its recommendations. Starch, gluten, and beans are most likely irritating the intestines contributing to the prolongation or severity of your condition. Eliminating dairy (cow’s milk products) wouldn’t hurt either.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Hi, Dr. Ettinger!

My wife has suffered with a large, painful and growing keloid scar on her left shoulder at the site where she received her childhood vaccinations. I also believe that was the cause of the keloid scarring in the first place. Would tamanu oil be the best oil to put on this to relieve the pain and to possibly reduce the scar (or at least keep it from growing any larger)? Or would EMU Oil be more effective in your opinion?

The pain is SO BAD right now that she wants to go to a dermatologist to get a STEROID SHOT which I do not recommend, but she feels there is NO ALTERNATIVE. Do you know what the side effects are from the steroids shots used in treating keloid scars so that I can educate her?

Thanks for letting me know as soon as possible, Dr. Ettinger. I appreciate all of your help!

P.S.–Do you ship UPS Ground? The reason I ask is because UPS is the only major carrier that does not irradiate any of their products.

Dr. Ettinger’s Response:

Based on the urgency, I’m cutting to the quick. I would alternate oils throughout the day. If there is no relief, to her satisfaction, go for the shot (side-effects are far less than her pain) and continue with the oils.

Our organic, Tahitian tamanu oil is of the finest quality and purity and is what I use every day. We do ship UPS ground.

Or

Go immediately for the shot and use the oils afterward. Personally, I would not want to watch my wife in pain until the package arrives.

Let me know what you decide and what works.

Sincerely,

From New York University’s Langone Medical Center website:

Principal Proposed Natural Treatments
Keloid Scars
Other Proposed Natural Treatments

When the body repairs a wound, it often does so by creating fibrous scar tissue. Internal scars that may develop following surgery can cause significant pain. Surface scars are generally painless, but they may be cosmetically unpleasant. In some cases, scars on the skin can develop into a special form of oversized scar called a keloid. Keloids are generally red or pink, and often form a ridge several millimeters above the skin. These scars occur when the body continues to fill the scar with collagen after it has healed. Darker-skinned people are more likely to develop keloids than those with lighter skin.

Conventional treatment of any type of scar is less than entirely satisfactory. Keloids and other scars on the skin may be reduced in size by freezing (cryotherapy), steroid injections, radiation therapy, or surgical removal. However, a new, even more visible scar may develop in the place of the one that was removed. Similarly, removal of painful internal scars may lead to the new formation of painful scar tissue.

Proposed Natural Treatments

The herb gotu kola is said to help remove keloid scars. 1,2 When used for this purpose, it is taken orally, applied to the skin, or injected into the scar. However, there is no reliable evidence that it is effective.

According to some schools of acupuncture , surface scars impede the flow of “energy,” and thereby cause various illnesses. Acupuncture treatment of both surface and internal scars is said either to shrink them or, at least, to reduce their effects. However, there is no meaningful scientific evidence to indicate that acupuncture offers any benefits for scars.

Other natural treatments proposed for scars, but again without reliable supporting evidence, include: Aloe vera , allantoin, coconut oil, collagen, elastin, jojoba oil, lavender oil , massage , magnet therapy , selenium , snail extract, tamanu oil, vitamin A, vitamin C , vitamin E , and zinc .

Hi Dr. Ettinger,

I forgot to ask you when I was there for my appointment about the cracked skin at the corner of my mouth. It wasn’t so bad then, but it has gotten worse. I have never in my life gotten this, so it’s a mystery. I’ve tried putting some skin repair cream on it, but It hasn’t helped that much. I know there’s a reason why this happens, but I seem to have forgotten. Is it some nutritional deficiency? any suggestions about getting rid of it?

Thanks a lot.

Dr. Ettinger

Do you have any feedback from any of the patients trying MM?

Secondly – a follow up to that blood work of my dads – he had a bone marrow test and turns out he has the following condition:

“Normocellular bone marrow with progressive trilineage hematopoiesis, erythroid hyperplasia, and no significant immunophenotypic abnormalities.

Peripheral blood with mild macrocytic anemia.”

Then there is the actual bone marrow analysis.

Cellularity …. the normocellular % is 40% which is normal for my age.

Basically something that could be genetic and that he has had for a long time. Conventional treatment is wait and watch… Any thoughts or insight?

W.

W,

I haven’t used “The Miracle Mineral Solution” (chlorine dioxide) it in my practice. I have had a few patients use it on their own, though I’ve never heard any rave testimonials about it. Personally, I’m not going to be using it.

As far as your dad’s diagnosis goes, I have had other patients with similar diagnosis and have referred them out to various integrative medical clinics to receive treatments I can’t perform at my practice.

When you see this type of blood test result you would naturally think leukemia/lymphoma. This would need to be ruled in or out. Another thing I would like to rule in or out is, zinc excess or copper deficiency. Here is a link to what I’m talking about. Hypocupremia (copper deficiency) and bone marrow failure. This is important because if it’s part of the puzzle, resolution can’t occur unless the issue is also addressed.

The common denominator in treatment for all has been monthly sessions of IV vitamin C and ongoing LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone) therapy. The patients I’m referring to have all had a diagnosis of leukemia (CLL mainly) or lymphoma (both Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkins).

Supplement wise has been: alpha lipoic acid (can be added to the vitamin C drip), CoQ10 (100+ mg’s), astaxanthin (8-12 mg’s), Vitamin D3 (2000-6000 IU’s), NAC w/selenium & molybdenum (Now Foods 1000+ mg’s), folic acid/B12 (400 mcg’s/2000 mcg’s) and betaine HCl (200-600 mg’s, per meal) for proper absorption of iron and other minerals.

N-acetylcysteine (NAC) Benefits

I hope this helps.

I love/loved the Probiotic Flora-Health the most. I really notice a difference in feeling much better when taking them. It has been a while since I have taken them as life has been hectic, financially and such. I am interested in taking them again but am now breastfeeding our first baby so I wanted to check with you on the safety of the product while breastfeeding.

Thank you for your time,

Bridget

Answer: Bridget,

Congratulations and yes I do remember, from SD and mom in Montana? I hope my memory is still intact. Probiotic Flora-Health is not only perfectly safe for you and the baby while breast feeding it is a mandatory product recommendation of mine while breast feeding. Our Non-GMO Lecithin Granules is another as i our Liquid Power and Omega 3-6-9. If you take these four items all the way through breast feeding, your baby has the best chances of growing-up healthy, without the same childhood sicknesses that other kids may get. You can take the same four products for your continued health as well.

My wife did the same. Our daughter is 7.5 years of age, no immunizations and has never had to set foot in an MD’s office. I have had her on supplements since she was three. Yes, she has had some mild colds here and there but that’s it.

If you need any personalized health you can always reach me at 714-639-4360

Take care,

Dr. Marcus Ettinger, B.Sc., D.C.

Response Back: Dr. Ettinger,

Yes! You do have a great memory. Thank you for your response and additional recommendations for supplements. Its great to know your daughter has benefited from them as well.

I am sure we will be in touch in the future. I would like my husband to start taking supplements soon too.

Take care,

Bridget

Question: Hello, my grandmother gave me a booklet about noni juice. She has Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The booklet she showed me was from this company – tahitiannoni.com

My question is, I’m looking for as close to pure as possible noni juice. My grandmom won’t mind taking it straight but what can we use to ease the taste without deactivating any of the nutrients.

Second, she is taking Ranitidine, but only when needed. Can she stop taking it if continuous use of noni juice?

Thanks for your help. I saw your video because I didn’t just settle for the booklet. I did some research and saw your video and you seem to have the pure stuff.

Thanks for your time with my questions

Mike

Video – CAOH Organic Noni Juices Since 1999

Answer: Mike,

Our Totally Nude Noni (100% pure organic noni juice) and our Almost Nude Noni (98% pure organic noni juice with 2% organic juice extract – flavor formula) will both works perfectly here. Our 98% product tastes pretty good and is no less beneficial than our 100% formula.

As far as here medication goes, your grand mom can try going without and if the symptoms don’t go away or become too unbearable, she can always go back on the meds.

Shoot me an e-mail and let me know which juice you chose and how it works out for your grandma.

Question: I was looking for iron on your website & did not find anything in the general area or under the Women’s section.

Do you not carry that supplement?

Thanks

Julie

Answer: Julie,

You request something and we answer your request!

Our Vegetarian Iron Complex™ utilizes the Albion Labs patented Ferrochel® Iron chelate where research has demonstrated it to be highly absorbed, well tolerated and non-constipating at recommended levels.

Superior Bioavailablity

Non-Constipating

Enriched with Vitamins & Herbs

A Vegetarian Dietary Supplement

100 Tablets

This is an extremely absorbable form of iron with natural co-factors. I find that iron deficiency anemia is not so common. Most people lack the co-factors for absorption and utilization. This formula has it all. Plus, the form of iron we use is the least constipating of all forms. You will want to take 1 per day with meals.

Take care and have a wonderful 2012

Sincerely,

Response Back: Good Morning….

That is great news, I will check back & order some along with my Liquid Power Multi-V. I had my annual doctor appt & when my blood work came back it showed me being anemic, so was told to take 325mg of iron a day. We think that part of it is my “pre-menopause” stage & the 2 week long cycles vs. the good ole 5 days.

Thank you for your time & wonderful supplements…

You too have a very Happy New Year!

What is Krill Oil?

Krill are tiny crustaceans that live in the cold, pristine waters of the Antarctic Ocean. Antarctic Krill are so plentiful that they are thought to be one of the most abundant animal species on earth, and are harvested as a renewable resource. Because their habitat is so remote, deep and cold, krill are free from harmful levels of heavy metals and toxins that may be found in some fish oil. Scientists and doctors have discovered that ingesting this oil can have amazing affects on your body including a stronger heart, pain-free joints, a better mood, lower cholesterol, easier menstruation and overall better health. Krill oil is a miraculous discovery from the deep pure waters of Antarctica that literally beats the pants off fish oil. When tested head to head by an independent laboratory our Krill oil was found to be 48x more powerful in antioxidant activity than fish oil! Pure krill oil from CAOH

Benefits of Krill Oil:

Krill oil is incredibly rich in Omega-3s, Phospholipids, and Astaxanthin

Krill oil contains vitamin E, vitamin A, vitamin D and canthaxanthin, which is – like astaxanthin – a potent anti-oxidant. The anti-oxidant potency of krill oil is such that when compared to fish oil in terms of ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorptance Capacity) values, it was found to be 48 times more potent than fish oil.

Why Krill Oil from California Academy of Health?

Is manufactured under strict quality control standards.

Individually packed so each softgel is fresh and pure each time you take it.

Is tested to be free of harmful levels of contaminants such as mercury and lead.

One study reported that healthy adults with the highest consumption of fish had higher scores for two indicators of heart health – blood vessel cell function and less inflammation – compared with those who did not eat fish.
Question: I am writing for information concerning my sister. She is only 57 and her fingers are already starting to be deformed due to rheumatoid arthritis. Is there anything she can take to reverse it or keep it from getting worse. I was wondering about coral calcium but she has a problem with calcium deposits. Will coral calcium cause calcium deposits? Also wanted to know if coral calcium will cause kidney stones as I have an aunt that would like to take calcium supplements but she has a problem with the kidney stones.

Thank you, Bonnie

Answer: Bonnie,

This request is way too complex for this forum. I wish it was as simple as saying yes to the coral calcium and all would be better, but it wouldn’t. RA is an auto immune disease and the triggers are unique to the individual. I have helped many of my patients with RA, with the initial work-up being the most important component. Treatment involves dietary and lifestyle changes, along with targeted nutritional supplementation.

I have a distance patient program that will do all of this. Here is a link to that information. Also, please read my blog-post, There is a cure for arthritis – Reactive Arthritis (Reiter’s Syndrome). This form of auto-immune arthritis is similar to RA.

As far as your aunt goes, she would be better off with magnesium than calcium. Calcium supplementation is very, very over rated. Magnesium deficiency is of a greater concern and more prevalent than that of calcium. So is vitamin D. My recommendation would be to take 3000 IU’s (3 caps) of our Vitamin D (power D3) and 800mg’s (1 cap in the AM & 1 cap in the PM) of our magnesium (Calm).

I hope this information helps.

Sincerely,
