The Need of Sleep!

The need to sleep!
Do you get enough sleep? Many of us actually do not get enough sleep, and we aren’t even aware of it. We have just adjusted to it without even realizing that we are not getting good sleep. We just think the energy level that we have is “normal”.
The fact is that we are not getting the real rest that we need, and if we did, we would notice a difference in our morale/mood, energy level, and alertness that would shock most of us. But the big issue is that the lack of sleep can affect your immune system, making you more susceptible to illness. Sleep is, after all, when the body can take the time to heal.
In addition most of us also don’t realize the impact that the foods we eat have on our sleep. Of course we know that caffeine keeps us awake. So, clearly we want to avoid anything that has caffeine in it at least six hours before bedtime. But just as caffeine is something that keeps us awake, there are many foods that actually help us get better sleep. Any food that contains tryptophan is a ’sleeper’ food.
Tryptophan is an amino acid that produces melatonin in the brain. Melatonin slows down the traffic in the nerves and helps our brains rest. The brain, of course, is the body’s central control center. When it’s active, so is the rest of the body – but when it rests so does the body.
You’ve heard of having a warm glass of milk to help you sleep. The ‘warm’ part really has no nutritional effect on sleep. But it is a psychological trigger that soothes us from our baby days, when our mothers fed us warmed milk or baby formula. however, the nutritional components of milk actually does promote sleep, because milk has calcium and tryptophan.
Calcium actually helps the brain use the tryptophan in a more productive way, making it produce melatonin faster, which relaxes our brains enough to let us fall into a deep, relaxing sleep.
Again, this is because of the calcium. Not only does this calcium help the brain produce melatonin, it also reduces pain and stiffness, helps decrease leg cramps, restless legs, and muscle spasms that many people experience during the night that keep us awake.
FYI – magnesium can also have the same effect. Some people need calcium, some magnesium and some need a combination of both. In fact, one of our customers mentioned to us that if he has any trouble sleeping, he just gets up and takes some of our Coral Calcium, and sleeps like a baby within a short time.
The nice thing is that taking one or the other will not harm you. They are just natural minerals and the also have other great nutritional aspects for the body as well.
Here is a recent email we got from one of our customers:

Dear CAOH,
“I would like to thank California Academy of Health, and share with you that Calm has restored my sanity. I was at my wits end after having suffered through six months of insomnia at this time last year. I didn’t want to go on prescription medication and had tried multiple over-the-counter sleep aids, none of which helped. I have ordered Goji Berries from www.caoh.com for a couple of years now, and was browsing your on-line product catalog. I was interested enough in the name of the product to read the description. I ordered a bottle of Calm, and that $20 provided instant relief of my insomnia. I take one capsule after lunch and have slept like a baby for the past year. That’s six months of sleep for $20! And it’s all natural. I don’t know why more physicians and OBs don’t recommend absorbable magnesium to their patients, especially those in peri- and menopause.”
Thank you CAOH!

Question: Hi Dr. Ettinger,
I take one serving of Liquid Power along with 1 Calm capsule in the morning on an empty stomach, and 1 Calm capsule in the afternoon on an empty stomach. Is this the best way to take it and can one take more than 1 serving of Liquid Power per day?
Have a great July 4th weekend.
Best Regards,
Sean Bailey
Answer: Sean,
I don’t see anything wrong with taking two of each, one in the AM and one an hour before bed. Let me know how this works for you.
Sincerely,
Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc

Bone density – calcium or exercise?

Question: Dear Dr. Ettinger
I really love your products and I have a question on your basic daily program for health and well-being. I read your e-mail regarding what you take for your daily regime, but I was wondering what you would suggest for women (especially regarding bone density). I had a DEXA scan and my doctor suggested taking Fosamax. I’ve heard so much negative info regarding this that I decided not to take it. I’ve heard of strontium for bone strengthing and density (680 mg) but I’m not sure which is best and I’ve also read that you shouldn’t take it with calcium but I’ve seen it advertised online as including it in one tablet. If you could give me some advice on this I would surely appreciate it.
Thank you
Cathy Kwiatkowski
Answer: Cathy,
This may sound too simple to be true but it is true, and it’s the most important component to bone density, period! There is a law that all doctors learn in school and it’s too bad 99% of them forget it 10 minutes after learning it. It’s called Wolff’s law, and a law in nature is true 100% of the time, in 100% of all circumstances. My interpretation of it goes like this, “the body remodels according to the stress placed upon it.”
Examples: (where ever it says bones you can also add in ligaments, muscles and tendons)
-
The racquet-holding arm bones of tennis players become much stronger than those of the other arm. Their bodies have strengthened the bones in their racquet-holding arm since it is routinely placed under higher than normal stresses.
-
Astronauts who spend a long time in space will often return to Earth with weaker bones, since gravity hasn’t been exerting a load on their bones. Their bodies have reabsorbed much of the mineral that was previously in their bones.
-
Weightlifters often display increases in bone density in response to their training.
-
Fighters who punch or kick objects with increasing intensity (or of increasing hardness) to develop striking power to damage opponents, often display increases in bone density in the striking area. Others may do this specifically to reduce pain response in the nerve endings of the striking tissue and to increase the bone density. Due to the ballistic and inconsistent nature of striking practice, load-bearing exercises are generally a safer form of measurable progression for increases in both bone and muscle strength.
So in a nut shell, you can be in outer-space take a dump-truck of calcium and Fosamax till it’s coming out your ears and you will still develop osteoporosis. Conversely, increase your daily allotment of weight bearing exercises (stair-climbing, squats, lunges’…) and you will have denser femurs and vertebrae in no-time.
I hope this helps.
P.S. Pass this data along to your MD, so you can watch him or her, try to side-step their Fosamax recommendation.
Sincerely,

Dear Doctor,
My mother has osteoporosis…Will your Liquid Coral Calcium supply her with enough Calcium?
How can I be assured that the Coral was not harvested from live reefs?
The Label says 2100mg Coral Calcium and then 575mg below that. What does this mean?
Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. Thanks!
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks!
Bill
Bill,
First, No one harvests from live reefs. The 2,100 is the amount of the coral calcium (the total raw product in one serving) the 575 is the amount of calcium per serving. This is a fantastic formula for the bones it is very a comprehensive formula and at a great price.
Sincerely,
Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc
Dr. E,
I have received my second shipment of CAOH Coral Calcium. I have my wife & sister using it as a preventative.
My sister wants to know how you guys make it taste so good.
How many servings should we all take…Currently we are all using 2 Tablespoons. Does that supply enough calcium?
Please get back to me.
Thanks,
Bill

Naked Noni Customer Comments – I love your product.

I have had an overgrowth of candida and it caused all sorts of physical problems, including my body not assimuating vitamins and minerals. I have been unable to take calcium or any type of minerals because it makes my joints ache and also my spine hurt terribly.
Since taking the Naked Noni I am now able to take vitamins, minerals, etc. Since I have osteoporosis this is, of course, very important.
Your noni doesn’t taste bad at all either. Much better than the other company I tried.
The circulation in my husbands legs, after taking noni, is so improved that he can now walk without any cramps in his calves and I mean long walks.
It has also helped my hormones balance.
This is miracle stuff!!!!
What a blessing!!!!

I have osteopenia and it is suggested that I take 1,500 of calcium in a 2:1 ratio with magnesium.

Question: Hello! I have osteopenia and it is suggested that I take 1,500 of calcium in a 2:1 ratio with magnesium. I see that your suggested dosage of liquid coral calcium contains 575 of calcium. Does that mean I would need to take 3 dosages each day to receive the 1,500?
By the way, I have tried all types of calcium/magnesium supplements and it seems like the only one that is kind to my digestive system is the coral calcium that has the magnesium that is also from the coral minerals. When I take mag. that is from other sources, my bowels are too loose. Why is it that magnesium from coral does not upset my system?
I have been taking Quantum Coral Complex, where the calcium and magnesium are derived from coral, but I would like to find something that is more economical, without sacrificing quality.
Any help that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Camille Steen
Answer: Camille,
1,500mg’s a day, in my opinion is a little much and the 2:1 everyone talks about is just an easy recipe for companies to make, but is not the proper ratio in the body. Calcium supplementation is far from being the be-all-end-all answer to osteoporosis treatment. If I am sitting all day my bones (hips & spine) don’t need to be dense because I am in a non-weight bearing position/situation. This will be the fact no matter how much calcium I take. on the other hand, if I am walking up stairs, weight lifting, bending, etc. my bones (hips & spine) will become denser because of the increased weight bearing stress on the bones. In my opinion, The Real Treatment for Osteoporosis Is – Weight Bearing Exercise!!! Supplementation just helps the exercise put the minerals back into the bones quicker.
Also, the magnesium in our coral calcium is from the coral and one ounce is plenty. Remember EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE.
My personal mantra, “The body remodels according to the stress placed upon it, not the amount of supplements put into it.”
I hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Which is better for me, liquid or capsule coral calcium?

Question: To whom it may concern; I would Like to know if your coral calcium capsules absorb as well as your liquid coral calcium, and if not, please provide me with the percentage that the body actually absorbs of each product. I am planning to make some purchases and would like to know which product would be best for me. Thank You very much for the Information.
Answer: Michelle,
Both liquid and capsule coral calcium are highly absorbable, it really comes down to preference. I hope this helps.
