I’ve Got A Chest Cold

Question: Dear Doctor,

I’ve got a cold. had it for a week now.and it moved down to my chest, filing up my lungs. Is oregano oil good for that. get rid of it .
Larry

Answer: Larry,

Here is some data that should help you in making an informed decision.

Recent laboratory research conducted at Weber State University (Ogden, Utah) has shown oregano oil to have a remarkable kill rate of 99% against in vitro (outside of the human body) colonies of Streptococcus pneumoniae, even when used in 1% concentration. (The S. pneumoniae is responsible for many kinds of lung and throat infections.)

Oregano oil is mucolytic, helps to mobilize and thin mucous, useful in lung disorders; anti-tussive, halts cough and eases spasticity of the lung tubules; anti-spasmodic, obliterates tightness and spasms of muscles; its greatest attributes are its anti-fungal, anti-parasitic and anti-microbial properties.

I am severely anemic and my doctor recommended I take up to 325 mg of iron a day

Question: Hi my name is Susan, I am severely anemic and my doctor recommended I take up to 325 mg of iron a day, do you have a product that can meet these requirements in a liquid or powder form? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Susan D

Answer: Susan,

First, are you sure it was 325mg’s a day? If yes, read the rest. If it was 32.5mg’s a day than that’s ok.

A menstruating woman only needs 30mg’s a day and 18-20mg’s a day the rest of the month. Your doctor needs to do a little home work and figure out what the real problem is – it’s not a lack of iron containing foods in your diet. 325mg’s a day is insane. For one, you would be so constipated from that much iron that it would take a colonic just to have a bowel movement. I am guessing that you might be vitamin C deficient and/or hydrochloric acid (HCl) deficient and/or vitamin B12/intrinsic factor deficient.

I personally would never recommend or take above 60mg’s of iron a day and the only iron I recommend is “Iron Glycinate”. I can’t tell you what to do but you really should think about seeing someone else. Let me know how this turns out.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Response back: Thank you for your quick feed back. I am definitely calling my doctor, even now as I type. I can’t believe he could have made such an error, I am glad to find someone who can question this and give me sound advice.

Thank you so much!

Susan

When Face-to-Face is Better

Question: Dear Doctor,

I hope you can help me. My mother has a extremely thin stomach lining and has several life threatening stomach bleeds. The doctors have said there is nothing more they can do. There has to be something that will either build her stomach lining or coat it. She is on iron pills to build her blood, due to she is severely anemic due to blood loss from the stomach bleeds, but those are irritating to the stomach. We are on such a merry go round with the medical profession. Do you know of anything that could help or any suggestions?

Please, and please hurry with you answer. We are really getting into a serious state here, the doctor told me there was nothing more that he could do, and that I should stay close to a hospital for blood transfusions.

Thank you,

Elaine Smith

Response: Elaine

I would love to help but there are too many variables that I am unaware of. Also, I haven’t seen blood tests, done a physical exam, completed a verbal consultation, or had her complete necessary paperwork. Giving you this type of advice, without the above, could set me up for malpractice (please read disclaimers below) or possibly be of no benefit at addressing the condition. Below is my personal recommendation. Your mother needs the best and she needs routine follow-up, not just an e-mail guess.

Find a local holistic practitioner in your area who can complete the above, give (nutritional, diet, and treatment) recommendations, and do follow-up visits every two weeks. This may be a chiropractor (DC), Naturopath (ND), or Osteopath (DO). Ask your friends and neighbors for referrals and/or call local DC’S, ND’S, and DO’S and ask for referrals.

Goji Juice – Testimonial 02/22/2007

Hi Dr. Ettinger, Thanks for your note.

My father is a doctor here in Peoria and he loves your Goji juice. He will be 77 his next birthday this March and is still very strong and sharp. Personally, I love the mental recall from it! I remember the most interesting details.

Thank you for offering such an incredible product.
Sincerely, Elizabeth B.

Power C and Power E Complex may help to reduce inflammation *

Vitamin C: 500 mg. April 2004 issue of the Journal of the American College of Nutrition confirms that taking Vitamin C helps reduce levels of C-reactive protein, a marker of chronic inflammation. Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, say that participants who took about 500 mg of vitamin C supplements per day saw a 24% drop in CRP levels after two months. The researchers tested 160 healthy adults who either smoked or were exposed to second-hand smoke. The double-blind, placebo-controlled study measured blood samples before and after the trial. Levels of CRP decreased by 24% among the group taking vitamin C.

Vitamin E: 400 – 600 I.U.(natural only). Health writer Jack Challem in the Canadian Alive magazine, August 2004, states that several clinical studies found that natural Vitamin E can lower CRP levels by 30% to 50% and IL-6 levels by 50%.

Lipitor and Pravachol – My Thoughts

Lipitor and Pravachol Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

22 Dec 2004

First of all, if you are presently taking a “statin” type cholesterol lowering drug you may be doing more harm than good. Lipitor and Pravachol in the most comprehensive study to date (18 months 654 patients) found that: yes, it did bring the numbers down (ON PAPER) but in the arteries where it counts (LIFE OR DEATH) the Lipitor only reduced the harmful plaque by a fraction of 1% and (GET THIS) the Pravachol actually increased the plaque by almost 3%. (NICE!) Your numbers are low, your doctor is happy and you’re happy. All the while you’re actually increasing your risk of developing cardiovascular disease and/or dying.

Ignored fact by the medical establishment:

These drugs block cholesterol production in the body by inhibiting the enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase in the (THE BIG WORDS REMOVED FOR YOUR PROTECTION) pathway. This same pathway is also shared by CoQ10 (a required chemical needed for life and available as a nutritional supplement). Therefore, one unfortunate consequence of statin drugs is the unintentional inhibition of CoQ10 synthesis. Thus, in the long run, statin drugs could predispose the patients to heart failure by lowering their CoQ10 status, the very situation that these drugs are intended to prevent.

Another ignored fact by the medical establishment:

CoQ10 enzyme is responsible, in the body for nerve growth (Brain, spinal chord, and electricity to the heart). When the body’s CoQ10 is too low, nerves begin to die and one experiences tingling, numbness, cramps, and even brain damage.) If you are having nerve pain or muscle cramps you must start taking CoQ10 and get off statins, because the nerve damage can become permanent. (Or you may die which ever comes first). Talk about this with your doctor.

And now another ignored fact by the medical establishment:

“Special Warnings about These Types of Drugs (statins)”:

There is a slight chance (How often is slight?) of liver damage from Lipitor, so your doctor may order a blood test to check your liver function before you start taking the drug, again 6 weeks and 12 weeks after you begin therapy or when your dosage is increased, and every 6 months thereafter (Does he/she do that?). If the tests reveal a problem, you may have to stop using the drug. (Really!)

And another ignored fact by the medical establishment:

Drugs like Lipitor have occasionally (Is that more or less than slight?) been known to damage muscle tissue, so be sure to tell your doctor immediately if you notice any unexplained muscle tenderness, weakness, or pain, especially if you also have a fever or feel sick. Your doctor may want to do a blood test to check for signs of muscle damage. (That’s nice)

And another ignored fact by the medical establishment:

Most Important Fact about This Drug:

Lipitor is usually prescribed ONLY IF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Diet, exercise, and weight loss fail to bring your cholesterol levels under control. IT’S IMPORTANT!!!!!!! to remember that Lipitor is a supplement, not a substitute for those other measures. To get the full benefit of the medication, you need to stick to the diet and exercise program prescribed by your doctor. (Did your doctor give you a diet? Did you even try the diet? Did you try exercising for even a day?)

And the last but not the least ignored fact by the medical establishment:

According to Dr. Allen Roses, worldwide vice-president of genetics at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and an academic geneticist from Duke University in North Carolina, “Fewer than half of the patients prescribed some of the most expensive drugs are benefited at all”. “The vast majority of drugs – more than 90 per cent – only work in 30 or 50 per cent of the people.” (So even if you are taking medication you only have a 30-50% chance of it working anyway. You’ve got better odds in Vegas).

What’s Special about “Special K”

By D. Jason Palmer
ScienceNOW Daily News
8 August 2006

A drug you’re as likely to find at a rave as at a veterinarian’s office may be the next big antidepressant. A single dose of Ketamine, a veterinary anesthetic that’s also renowned as the recreational drug “Special K,” improved the mood of patients with major depression in as little as 2 hours, with effects lasting up to a week, according to a new study.

Comment:

This is the true definition of double standard. My horse can get it legally at the vet; If I say I am depressed but really pretending, I can legally get it at my doctors but I can be arrested if caught with Ketamine for recreational purposes.

Wow, the public can now legally get a politically correct version of PCP.

Here is what a doctor visit will be like: “Please mister doctor, I am so depressed, can you give me something, please?” “Sure Johnny, here’s the new, safer PCP, it’s called Ketamine but you can tell your friends your getting “Special K.” The hallucinations will only last an hour or two; you can’t drive, operate heavy machinery, coherently function at work ,or in life but the good news is, you wont be depressed. Because, Johnny you will be so wacked out of your skull that you won’t even notice or care about what you were depressed about in the first place.” Wow, that sound great doc, your tops!

I would like to personally thank everyone at the FDA for caring enough about me and my fellow Americans to give us what we have been asking for, for so many years; a breakfast cereal that my insurance will pay for.
