I have a couple of questions about your Absolute Mangosteen

Q: I had a quick question about the product Absolute Mangosteen which is what I ordered.

Do you use the ENTIRE fruit including the pericarp? I ask because the juice is sweet, and isn’t gritty or bitter. On the label it says that there is no added water.

When I throw actual whole mangosteen fruit into a blender and puree, it is quite gritty and tastes horrible – due to the extremely bitter pericarp. Your juice has the taste and consistency of mangosteen juice without the pericarp.

Xango juice (which is NOT pure mangosteen juice like Absolute Mangosteen) is much thicker, grittier, and bitter than your product which was surprising. I am planning on aggressively marketing your juice through my health clinic in Vancouver, BC and need to know the answers to these questions in case I’m confronted by vigilant Xango salespeople.

Thanks,

A: Roy,

“Xango is much thicker, grittier, and bitter than your product which was surprising.” Xango is bitter because of added citric acid and thick because of pectin and xanthan gum (It’s almost like making jelly). And why do they need to add, “Natural Flavor”, aren’t 10 “magical” fruits enough?

Absolute Mangosteen contains the entire fruit minus the insoluble fiber. Throwing the whole fruit in a blender will yield a lot of bitter compounds and a ton of fiber. Professional processing yields a more palatable and consumer friendly product. I am assuming that Canada allows the importation of Mangosteen, the US does not.

Let me know if this handles your questions.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Reply back: Thanks for your reply Marcus. You have a great product line and I’m looking forward to carrying many of your products in my health clinic.

Just to clarify, Marcus, the MLM product Xango contains an unspecified amount of actual mangosteen juice in their “blended” product (most likely 20-40%), and they also use pectin and xanthan gum to artificially thicken the juice in an attempt to make it seem as if it is the insoluble fiber of the pericarp that is making it thick. Underhanded but clever at the same time.

They then add citric acid to create a slightly bitter taste to their product to give it a more comparable taste to the bitter pericarp of the actual mangosteen.

So how do you remove the insoluble fiber from your product without extracting all of the vital nutrients from the pericarp with it? How would the nutritional integrity of Absolute Mangosteen compare to the practice of consuming the whole fruit itself, including the bitter pericarp which is next to impossible to eat?

“I am assuming that Canada allows the importation of Mangosteen, the US does not.”

No, we don’t have any restrictions on the importation of mangosteen fruit into Canada. You can buy the fruit at many grocery stores in the area. But it’s super-expensive and not very practical since 90% of the fruit consists of the most extremely bitter taste experience known to man.

I am planning on promoting your product in my next seminar and need to be prepared to field all questions from Xango reps.

Thanks again for your assistance Marcus.

My reply back: Roy,

The fruit is macerated, filtered and the insoluble fiber is removed. Fiber contains no nutrient value.

I have been in the holistic field for almost 20 years and do not recommend getting into a debate with any rep, especially an MLM rep, it will be a losing battle. You will not change their minds and they will fight you. They will make you, your recommended product and the information you give them, wrong. My recommendation is to speak about a product from a personal point of view and if a question arises give them our website and or e-mail. These are just suggestions.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Xango Patent?

Question: What is the difference between your Mangosteen Elixir and Xango, which claims to have a patent on the fruit and the pericap?

Thank you

Richard Main

Answer: Richard,

Please read these posts (follow the link) and see if they help to answer your questions. If you have a specific question afterwards, e-mail me back.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

P.S. For kicks, e-mail Xango and ask them to send you a copy or a link to “their” patent. IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure you have a cushy chair, the last two years of National Geographic and Mad Magazine, and a stock pile of food because you may have a bit of a wait.

What do you know about Bazi?

Question: A very good friend of mine is using/selling Bazi. What, if anything, do you know about this product?

Thanks!

Melissa Murphey

Answer: Melissa,

In theory it looks like a good product but more likely than not, it isn’t. This is from their promotional material:

“How much of each fruit is in the XELR8 Phyto8 Blend?”

“The Phyto8 Blend is a proprietary blend of 8 fruits known only to XELR8. Extensive research has gone into placing each fruit in a perfect ratio to allow for optimal benefits of health and wellness, this is what makes Bazi so unique and exclusive to XELR8.”

This must have been written by a presidential campaign speech writer, attorney or both. Translated into plain English we get: We don’t list how much fruit is really in there and we definitely don’t want to publicize it because it’s just a little juice and a lot of water. The extensive research I am sure was conducted at Cambridge, Harvard or Yale by a team of Nobel Prize winning biochemists.

I am just having fun with this as you can probably tell. This is 100% on par with the promotional literature of every Multi Level Marketing company in existence. They talk-up the product(s) without ever giving you any facts to back it up.

I hope this helps or at least made you laugh.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Response: It does make me laugh and also makes me want to steer clear of it! My best friend is using and selling it and loves it. So hard to tell her no, but I don’t want to get into ANOTHER multi-level program. I have been in Beauticontrol Cosmetics and New Vision International and am done with it.

Thanks for the info. I kind of felt the same way. If their blend was “legitimate” they would probably share the info.

Love your products! Love the simplicity of your site! Love the organic factor in much of it! Keep up the GREAT work!

Private: Interesting observations at the Las Vegas NNFA Conference

NNFADr. Ettinger and I just returned from Las Vegas, NV where we attended the NNFA (NPA) conference. I really find these conferences interesting with all the new products and ideas – it’s just a good thing to go see. But the one thing that really caught my attention was the amount of new Goji, Mangosteen and Acai products that are being sold. We have been selling Noni now for seven years, Goji for four years, Mangosteen for three, and Acai almost two. I have to say some of the new products are not what one would expect; especially some of the, so called, “pure” Goji Juices that are being displayed. A little known fact is that raw goji juice pretty much looks like fresh carrot juice. To some this may seem odd because goji berries are reddish orange in color. What we found were thick, cooked, dark brown liquids, not cold pressed pure juice.

One particular company claims to be the first pure 100% goji, with absolutely nothing else added. First of all, the juice is a thick dark brown syrup. Secondly, it smells like a liquid mix of honey, caramel and molasses. Third, it tastes terrible. So again, knowing what 100% pure goji juice looks and tastes like, there is just no possible way what we saw and tasted is 100% cold pressed, flash pasteurized goji juice. My guess is that it is a 100% lifeless cooked down version.

One of the main reasons we have always blended our juices is because you can achieve better product stabilization and synergy without adding preservatives and chemicals. Juices just don’t do well by themselves storage-wise. But with a proper blend of certain juices and berries you can achieve a natural balance and then flash-pasteurizing the liquid you can bottle products without harming the healthful properties of the juice. Some may say that is too simple, but that it is our little trick and believe me, it took some trial and error to get it right.

There will be more to come on this topic and some new product surprises are coming soon!

Thanks,

CAOH

Mangosteen, Goji, Noni – HBP, Low Thyroid & Endometriosis

I am trying to decide whether to purchase Magnosteen elixir, goji or noni juice. I do have hypertension, hypothryoidism and endometriosis. Which product would benefit me the most and how much should I take? Thank You . Kathy

Dear Kathy,

First I want you to remember that these are nutritional fruit juices, they are not medicines. That said; each fruit possesses its own unique chemical make-up.
Each fruit has different combinations of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (phenols, flavonoids and polysaccharides).

I am a big fan of the word synergy, the phenomenon in which two or more discrete influences or agents acting together create an effect greater than the sum of the effects each is able to create independently.

Mangosteen is great, Goji is great and Noni is great. One is not any worse or better than the other, each is special and unique. But if I could only pick one I would have to pick the Mangosteen Elixir. The Mangosteen Elixir contains Goji and Noni along with many other synergistic juices. So there you have it.

Sincerely,

Marcus Ettinger DC, BSc.

Mangosteen Elixir – Xanthones and % of Juice

Mangosteen-ElixirQ:…now for some questions. My son Calvin, has been in touch with you a couple of times inquiring about your products, particularly your Mangosteen Elixir. I would like to know what the comparison is, in the percentage of Mangosteen in Xango, to the percentage in your Mangosteen Elixir I know that you also offer more health benefit juices (Goji and Noni juices) but as you can see, this is a very important fact for us as Bills’ health depends on his constant intake of Mangosteen.
I am very pleased with what I am learning about your company and about yourself.

It is probably better that I have stated everything on paper (so to speak) so that you can digest what I have informed you about and can give me qualified answers.

1. How many Xanthones in your Mangosteen Elixir?

2. % of Mangosteen juice to % of other ingredients?

3. How long have you been producing and selling Mangosteen?

4. And as asked above – What is the % comparison between Mangosteen in your juice and Mangosteen in Xango?

My son Cal is 100% behind your company and from what he has told me, I am very interested too, but would appreciate answers to the above questions as we have so much at stake.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your answers.

A: Dear Patty,

Our Mangosteen Elixir is everything Xango is and more.

1. How many Xanthones in your Mangosteen Elixir?

There are over 40 isolated Xanthones in mangosteen and CAOH’s Mangosteen Elixir has all of them.

2. % of Mangosteen juice to % of other ingredients?

We have a higher % of Mangosteen in our juice than Xango. Ours is over 60% Mangosteen.

We also add Goji, Noni, Black Elderberry, Pomegranate, Red Raspberry and Blueberry Juice which makes up the other 40%. Our proprietary blend is more expensive to produce and possesses far higher antioxidant levels.

Xango’s base is primarily Apple, Pear and Grape. These fruit juices taste great but add very little to its health benefits. (Apple, pear and white grape juices are very cheap, which helps Xango to pay their big, multi-level-marketing, down-line commissions).

3. How long have you been producing and selling Mangosteen?

Since 2002

4. And as asked above – What is the % comparison between Mangosteen in your juice and Mangosteen in Xango?

Xango, an MLM product, does not release that data so I don’t know their % of Magosteen. Ours is 60%.

Based on the overall juice blend CAOH’s Mangosteen Elixir is hands down a better product.

Sincerely

Marcus Ettinger BSc, DC

What Does Dr. Ettinger Take?

what I takeAs my first official post on CAOH blog, I am going to answer a question I’ve been asked at least once a day, for over ten years, “what supplements do you take?” My answer comes in two parts.

First, what I take is based on almost 20 years of personal research, trial and luckily no error. My program has changed over the years based on what my current health goals are.  My long term health goal toady consists of going to bed at 98 with a smile on my face, never having set foot in a doctor’s office, and not waking up the next day. (There was a time when people past-on from natural causes) My program is in no way a recommendation to you the reader.

Second, my program:

7:00 am -  1-scoop Whey Protein Isolate Powder, 1 Tbsp. Liquid Flax Seed Oil, 1 Tbsp. (CAOH) Power Multi-V (multi-vitamin/mineral), 1 fl oz (CAOH) Organic Goji Juice, 1 fl oz (CAOH) Mangosteen Elixir, 1 Tbsp (CAOH) Ultra Supreme Greens, 2 Tbsp. (CAOH) Lecithin Granules, Trader Joe’s organic cherries, and blue berries, all mixed with 8oz. of purified water. Blended into a yummy shake. (I make my 19 month old daughter, Maile, a smaller one. She l-o-v-e-s the goji and mangosteen juice)* I have also tried acai, pomegranate, elderberry and noni in the shakes. I just dig the way the goji, mangosteen, cherries and blue berries mix together.

10:00am – 3 oz. protein with some almonds, 12 oz seltzer water. (CAOH) Power C (buffered vitamin C w/ bioflavonoids and rutin), (CAOH) Power E Complex (Vitamin E w/ mixed tocopherols) and (CAOH) CoQ10.*

12:30pm – 3 0z fish, or a salad, or sushi, or a big bowl of soup with 2 cups green tea.*

6:00pm – Dinner (5 nights a week it’s very low glycemic index – low carbohydrate) (2 nights it’s whatever we want)*

10:00pm – GABA, (CAOH) Calm (magnesium caps), (CAOH) Liquid Complete B Complex.*

*All of my meals and supplements are taken with (CAOH) Super Power Digestive Enzymes.
I also take other supplements as needed and plant based enzymes with large meals.

Yours in good health,

Marcus Ettinger BSc, DC
